Gujarat Titans will seek to end their winless run in IPL 2024 when they take on Rajasthan Royals at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. On the other side of this clash is Rajasthan Royals who hope to extend their unbeaten streak in this tournament.
Shubman Gill comes in and speaks about how much he believed even after leaving. He then states how good it is to have Impact Players like himself on board and that 197 was an exceptional score for them to work towards.
Toss
Gujarat Titans under the leadership of Shubman Gill look to capitalize on their strong start to the season and extend their winning streak against Rajasthan Royals. On the other hand, Rajasthan have an impressive bowling unit including Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Nandre Burger and Shimron Hetmyer among many others – who could all prove decisive against Gujarat Titans’ efforts in winning against them.
Shubman Gill was impressive with 72 off 44 for RR; however, their attempt at chasing down 197 failed due to an impressive bowling performance from GT’s bowlers who held off the run chase by taking wickets from B Sai Sudharsan, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia and Noor Ahmad to keep them competitive in this match-up.
However, Rashid Khan’s boundary off Avesh Khan’s final ball proved decisive and gave the Titans an exciting last-ball win after their three-match losing streak.
Samson hit an early low full-toss for four and was run out by Spencer Johnson after missing the stumps while trying to flick/slam the ball to long on. This ensured they remained unbeaten and in first position on the points table. Earlier, Samson hit two full-tosses from Johnston for four runs before being run out while trying to flick/slog a ball through for another boundary run out at long on.
At Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Rajasthan, this match begins at 7.30 PM IST with live action beginning at Sawai Mansingh Stadium starting from 7.30 PM IST – live coverage provided by Zee News! With David Miller likely out due to a back spasm and Wriddhiman Saha still recovering from injury; Navdeep Saini may join after participating at National Cricket Academy.
First Innings
Cricket’s first innings is an event in which both teams have an opportunity to bat and bowl over an unspecified number of overs. It differs from formats like One Day Internationals (ODIs) or Twenty20 where each team only receives one full innings to bat or bowl in total.
Team success hinges upon teams scoring as many runs in their opening innings as possible, since doing so can dramatically alter their odds of victory. Some hitters tend to excel during these early innings while others struggle. It’s essential that coaches find a balance between batting powerhouses and those adept at handling early innings pressure.
Royals batsmen include Jos Buttler and Riyan Parag, two of the finest players in the tournament. However, their middle overs defense has fallen short – particularly Rashid Khan and R Ashwin who both conceded over 30 runs per over in each of their last two overs.
RR posted 191 runs in their first innings, led by Buttler’s amazing 84-ball century. Samson and Hetmyer contributed significantly as well. While the Titans possess many talented hitters such as Shubman Gill and Rahul Tewatia, their batting has struggled in key moments of the match.
Second Innings
After losing Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal early on, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag carried Rajasthan past 200 and set them a 197-run target against Gujarat – but their bowlers couldn’t keep up and were overwhelmed by Shimron Hetmyer and Rahul Tewatia’s powerful hitting in the final over.
South African batsman Quinton de Kock hit three balls from Prasidh Krishna’s final over for six runs to power his team to their inaugural IPL final match in only their fifth game in the competition. De Kock delivered a remarkable innings, hitting over long-on for six before hitting deeper square leg and midwicket for further runs – all on one ball from Prasidh Krishna!
Titans in their reply quickly suffered their first loss as opener Sai Sudharsan was hit with a delivery that flew past his head and soon after was caught at point by Shibman Gill, before lofting an even fuller one to extra cover boundary for four before trying to steal two off next ball and being run out trying.
Avesh then sent an easy short one wide of outside off, but Rashid Khan’s outstanding wrists (ranked among the best in world cricket) proved decisive, cutting it towards the vacant boundary beyond point and earning him cheers from home spectators as he raised his arms in celebration.
But as rain returned, players began leaving the ground. Covers had to be taken off of the pitch in order to see if it will be playable before 7.25 PM IST when first ball is scheduled to be delivered. Stay tuned for further updates.
Third Innings
Gujarat Titans mounted an inspired effort against Rajasthan Royals to reach a 197-run target and defeat them by three wickets. Although RR suffered early losses of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag added some important runs at fourth wicket, compiling an excellent total of 178 runs between them for their fourth wicket partnership – providing much-needed win to their campaign after having only won two out of their initial five matches.
Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur after a brief delay due to light drizzle. Following this initial delay, play began soon afterwards.
The first 10 overs were relatively peaceful with both teams struggling to score runs. But in the 12th over, Kuldeep Sen claimed a crucial hat-trick while Yuzvendra Chahal took two wickets to put pressure on batsmen.
Rashid Khan’s last-ball boundary proved decisive for GT. After taking time in his crease to adjust his grip on the bat, he struck an exquisite shot over point to seal victory with fast hands and end the game for GT.
Gujarat have received an immense boost with this victory as they move up to seventh on the points table. Their skipper Shubman Gill was delighted with how his team competed.
He emphasized the need to keep their run rate high as wickets were being lost regularly during middle overs, citing team effort from batsmen and bowlers as key contributors in scoring 197 on a dry pitch without dew despite suffering defeat; noting they will learn from this defeat and move forward; thanking fans for their continued support.
Final Innings
After an inauspicious start, Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson led an unlikely late surge to push past 200. Yet with Buttler still at the crease, the final over was always going to be difficult – and indeed it proved so.
Avesh Khan bowled the final over with four fielders on each boundary and an impending over-rate penalty looming large. When his delivery came short and outside off, Rashid used his strong wrists – among the strongest and most flexible in cricket – to slice the ball towards an open gap beyond point.
Shubman Gill of the Titans was understandably disappointed after an incorrect call that proved wide. Although it would have been nice for his team to end a game that had gone awry for them, there will always be another day in which to fight back – three of the four teams in their inaugural season achieved last-over chases of 15 or more!
Rahul Tewatia and Shimron Hetmyer weren’t done, either. Shimron Hetmyer started off slowly but managed to strike two fours before the television umpire called for his runout off the last ball of the match.
RR remain at the top of the table with four wins out of four games played so far, and have extended their unbeaten run to four matches and are in line to match one of the best starts ever seen in an IPL season. Doing so against Rajasthan could prove challenging but if they can use spinners such as Mohit Sharma and Navdeep Saini to their advantage they could extend their winning streak even further.
