Nicholas Pooran (c)
Nicholas Pooran joined an elite list of T20 international batters by scoring 36 runs in an over for West Indies against Afghanistan at Daren Sammy Stadium, St Lucia on Friday evening. Pooran hit 8 sixes while smashing 53 balls for West Indies off 53 deliveries to score 98 off 53 balls at Daren Sammy Stadium’s Daren Sammy Stadium Daren Sammy Stadium Daren Sammy Stadium Daren Sammy Stadium St Lucia Daren Sammy Stadium St Lucia Daren Sammy Stadium Daren Sammy Stadium Daren Sammy Stadium daren Sammy Stadium made possible a challenging total score of 218 against Azmatullah Omarzai bowled 4th over.
Pooran has distinguished himself in this tournament as an exciting young talent in world cricket. A powerful left-handed wicketkeeper batsman, with the ability to clear boundary ropes effortlessly. Making his debut for Trinidad Red Steel in 2013 Caribbean Premier League and quickly making headlines due to his hard hitting abilities.
Pooran has managed to make steady strides forward despite suffering several injuries throughout his career, becoming one of the leading limited-overs players for both domestic and international competitions for Windies cricket team as well as various T20 franchise leagues globally.
This 23-year-old has made several notable innings for the Windies recently. He was an instrumental force during their 2019 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka where he scored an outstanding 118 off 103 balls – something which should continue for future games as well.
Ayush Badoni (wk)
Harsha Bhogle may have asked where Ayush Badoni had been hiding in his career, but Ayush Badoni certainly put people on notice with his performance. With just eight runs under his belt in T20 cricket and no first-class or List A experience behind him, this Delhi native made quite an impactful statement when he came on to bat against Rashid Khan with two sixes before hooking fast Lockie Ferguson for another. Many established players would have been immensely proud to witness such an obba hit.
He didn’t stop there: in his second innings, he has shared in an incredible 286-run partnership with Priyansh Arya; this marks the highest partnership for any wicket in DPL history and would have stood except for Kuldeep Yadav’s run out.
Delhi-born batsman Badoni plays unorthodox cricket but still manages to turn games in his favour, while bowling off-spin and boasting match-winning potential. LSG signed him for 20 lakh at the IPL auction of 2022 and are making sure they utilize this opportunity as best they can.
Devendra Sharma, Badoni’s coach at Delhi Sonnet Cricket Club where he learned alongside former India batsman Tarak Sinha, has witnessed Badoni’s development over the last three years. According to Devendra, Badoni has been consistently performing in local tournaments while dominating top-level bowlers with ease; given enough time and attention, Badoni could become an invaluable weapon on any wicket.
Ravi Bishnoi (wk)
Leg-spinners add much variety to their side. Capable of bowling both orthodox leg-breaks and googlies that are difficult to read from their action, these leg-spinners have also shown themselves adept with bat and ball in recent times, scoring runs at an excellent rate.
Bishnoi makes an impactful catch to further derail Zimbabwe in their innings against India during the third T20I, keeping India in control of the match and keeping momentum behind their attack. His brilliant catch further tightened India’s grip on their opponent.
Prithvi Shaw and Abhishek Porel combined well in the middle order to help Delhi reach 223/7 after 20 overs, taking full advantage of Powerplay batting together and producing some exceptional strokes. Even with late dismissals of Fraser-McGurk and Pant, Delhi’s innings was remarkable.
Yudhvir Singh Charak steps up to bowl DC’s final over. He begins by sending in short deliveries for Stubbs, who attempts to pull it but was caught at deep midwicket. Yudhvir then bowls a slower delivery that Axar flicked behind for one single run.
Delhi Capitals hope to make a quick turnaround after their slow start to the season. Their low net run rate requires them to win big against LSG if they wish to remain in contention for playoff spots, and also give some breathing room as they head into the second half of tournament play. Rishabh Pant has returned from his one-match suspension so their top order should add even more firepower to their batting line-up.
Ishant Sharma (wk)
Ishant Sharma first made his mark against Australia in 2008 with an extraordinary fast bowling spell at 19. Bowling at speeds over 150km/h, Ishant had batsmen cowering in fear as his short deliveries raced past them at over 150 km/h. In 2009 alone he amassed 38 wickets across both tests before suffering with inconsistency thereafter; occasionally producing fiery spells but failing to produce consistent ones overall.
Ishant Sharma remains one of India’s premier fast bowlers and remains one of its greatest. Capable of producing late in-swing on slow pitches and intimidating opposition batsmen with sheer velocity, Ishant stands out among India’s recent history as an exceptional fast bowler who often excels in crucial situations while often leaked runs and made his fans angry in key situations. Unfortunately however, his inconsistency often led to runs being leaked during crucial situations, prompting angered reactions from Indian fans.
Even so, Ishant still has his place in the national side. He remains an outstanding fast bowler capable of devastating performances when focused on bowling with precision and timing.
On Tuesday, Ishant was put under immense pressure by LSG batsmen but held his nerve to pick up two wickets in the final over. He conceded only seven runs from his penultimate over as Porel was caught at slip by Rahul for an impressive 27-ball 38 before breaking a 92-run second wicket stand between Porel and Hope when his leg break hit Hope’s edge and went straight through to first slip – an important performance that ensures DC will remain competitive for top four.
Mukesh Kumar (wk)
Mukesh Kumar is a fast bowler who currently represents Bengal in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Since making his first-class debut in October 2015, he has played 34 FC matches at an economy rate of 5.10 while collecting 130 wickets at 5.10. In addition to that, 24 List A matches and 26 T20 wickets have also come his way since then.
Since 2017, he has been an integral member of Bengal, making Ranji Trophy final appearance and taking five wickets against Karnataka in semi-final. After his stellar performances for Bengal, in July 2023 he received his maiden India call-up and made all three formats debut against West Indies on that same month.
Mukesh Kumar had an outstanding tour of the Caribbean for India’s T20I team and earned himself a place in their national squad ahead of ODI series against Sri Lanka. Since making his India debut he has played in 14 ODIs and three Tests taking 12, 5 and 7 wickets respectively.
Mukesh and Naveen attempt a big hit but their yorker is caught by Fraser McGurk down leg-side for just one run to leave Lucknow on nine down with four overs remaining. Charak was dropped at backward point allowing Lucknow to edge closer towards their target of 209.
