Reece Topley was struck for six over long-on by Abhishek Sharma and thus saw his magnificent fifty come to an end.
Travis Head’s Century
Head’s remarkable century was the driving force behind SRH’s impressive total at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The opener attacked bowlers from all directions before reaching his maiden hundred in only 39 balls – sharing an opening stand with Abhishek Sharma of 108 runs, before continuing his assault with Heinrich Klaasen before hitting nine fours and eight sixes during a spectacular innings that reached three figures.
Head has been in stunning form against India in recent games and his quick century was exactly what Sunrisers Hyderabad needed to put them off balance against India’s visitors. His blazing century was one of the fastest ever scored by an Australian batsman away from home and set a new record for highest runs scored during an innings away from home.
Head’s match-defining knock will certainly do wonders for his international career. Previously, the former Adelaide Strikers batsman had scored an outstanding 102 off 41 balls – but against RCB it was truly unforgettable.
Australian batsman Steven Smith made for an unforgettable display as he effortlessly dispatched all three bowlers in one delivery after another to register an outstanding century that featured many signature shots.
He had several chances to add runs to his total, but was unlucky on both occasions. First he top-edged a slog sweep off Ravichandran Ashwin; on another attempt Rishabh Pant safely held on. But nonetheless SRH were in strong position thanks to Sharma and Klaasen’s partnership which yielded 108 runs and the brilliant knock of Klaasen which put them well ahead.
Abhishek Sharma’s Struggle
RCB’s desire to move out of the bottom four was clear in their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their batsmen appeared poised for an exciting chase but fell victim to poor bowling from Sunrisers.
Faf du Plessis and Abhishek Sharma got off to a solid start by hitting two boundaries each in Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s first over; but this soon changed when their batsmen were caught unawares by his next delivery – soon being overshadowed by poor bowling from Hyderabad bowlers who soon caught them off guard despite starting well from each batsman in that first over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar; only to soon be taken off guard themselves later by bowlers’ bowling change-off guard by bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar who bowled his first over by one ball off balance, before being caught off guard himself before falling short again by him later that over came after initially two boundaries each in one over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar, before soon taken off guard again by some bowling spinner.
Abhishek Sharma Role
On the other hand, Abhishek Sharma continued his dismal form in T20 International cricket by being dismissed after scoring only seven runs – trying one shot too many in the powerplay and that ultimately cost him dearly.
Abhishek was caught by Heinrich Klaasen off Gerald Coetzee of South Africa at St George’s Park in Gqeberha and has become the subject of serious speculation regarding whether or not he will remain part of India’s T20 squad for its forthcoming series against Bangladesh.
SRH posted 287-3 in their first innings, their highest total in IPL history. Travis Head scored an unbeaten century while Heinrich Klaasen contributed an explosive 67 not out to help propel them towards 300 runs – their previous high was 289. Chasing Royal Challengers Bengaluru were overwhelmed by SRH’s powerful batting display, only managing 262/7 as an innings reply and dropping to seventh position with six losses from seven matches (six of those were against Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals to keep their playoff hopes alive but first they must win three matches against Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals before losing them again!
Heinrich Klaasen’s Brilliant 67
On Monday, Heinrich Klaasen shone brightest as SRH posted an outstanding total against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Wankhede Stadium. His fiery innings earned a standing ovation from both fans and social media.
Right-handed batsman Dhawal Kulkarni breezed past RCB bowlers with ease, picking up boundaries at an impressive rate. In a 108-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma he led them close to 200 before smashing three fours and sixes off Reece Topley to propel SRH closer towards its target score.
SRH were on track for an unprecedented total when Topley hit two sixes and two fours to put SRH within reach. Later, Aiden Markram hit two fours off Lockie Ferguson to help propel them over the target and bring up an astounding total for South Reading.
Klaasen recorded two unbeaten centuries this season – one against Kolkata Knight Riders and the other against Rajasthan Royals – which made him not only one of the greatest IPL batsmen ever but also second highest scorer behind David Warner in scoring totals.
Claasen was unstoppable even while RCB spinners took key wickets, piercing gaps effortlessly and hitting sixes with great accuracy – amassing his runs in just 19 balls to surpass former captain Warner’s record of 161. At the end of his innings he celebrated his century in front of Virat Kohli – smiling back before they shared an embrace after their win.
Travis Head’s Carnage
Head issued a stark warning to his opponents ahead of the T20 World Cup by scoring his fourth fastest century in IPL history in just 39 balls – an extraordinary performance against Royal Challengers bowlers.
Bumrah and Siraj found it difficult to contain Head early on, until finally being joined together in the seventh over. Head punished them both with an instant six off the first ball he faced; followed by a backfooted four over mid-off in the next over. Bumrah again got hit for six, before smashing him for two further sixes off successive deliveries from his bowlers.
Krishnappa Gowtham was put under immense pressure early on, being hit for 22 runs during the powerplay over. When given another opportunity in over 4, Gowtham tried hitting high shots but was caught at long-on trying to clear the roof with lofted shots; that proved unsuccessful as well.
Heinrich Klaasen was not about to let Heineken’s night end without further celebrations. Yash Dayal delivered a full toss on the leg side that Klaasen dismissed with ease and then hit a flat batted shot over bowler Abdul Samad’s head for an outright six. Dayal was later taken off as Abdul Samad came on; Head punishing Samad with three sixes in one over from left-armer Head – making for an amazing batting performance from Sunrisers batsmen; their 277/3 in final over was an unprecedented total for this venue and defeat for RCB who appeared to have lost everything before reaching home.
Aiden Markram’s Half-Century Stand
Even with two half-centuries in their run chase, SRH failed to maintain their dominance and eventually fell short by 25 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. A late surge by Virat Kohli at deep midwicket saw Travis Head taken out by Virat for 35. Wanindu Hasaranga’s five wicket haul propelled RCB towards victory and dealt SRH their fourth consecutive defeat.
Travis Head scored one of the fastest centuries ever seen in Indian Premier League history while Heinrich Klaasen made history by smashing an unbeaten fifty. Together they helped Hyderabad amass 287 for three against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy stadium; an outstanding total for an Indian Premier League match and second in T20 cricket across all formats history.
With bat in hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad got off to an explosive start during the Powerplay, scoring 64 runs from just four overs in their opening Powerplay over. But Faf du Plessis and Abhishek Sharma of RCB proved adept at keeping control over middle overs by restricting scoring by keeping scores within reasonable boundaries and controlling middle overs with extreme discipline, thus keeping SRH from scoring freely.
Klaasen Performance
Klaasen had produced an excellent 67 off 31 balls, and he is rewarded with another six off Lockie Ferguson to give SRH some momentum. It flies straight over long-on and provides them with another victory.
But Yash Dayal at backward point caught him off the next ball, ending a remarkable 106-metre six.
