Yash Thakur 5/30

Young pacer Yash Thakur enjoyed an outstanding outing against Gujarat Titans and secured his maiden five-wicket haul in the Indian Premier League, helping Lucknow Super Giants claim victory. Thakur’s performance was one of the major factors in their victory.

The 25-year-old, who has yet to play an international match, tore through Titans middle and lower order batsmen with ease, taking three wickets in his first two overs and one more wicket in 19th over – helping his side secure an impressive 33 run victory on match three of season.

He began the innings by dismissing Shubman Gill with a full, straight delivery that skidded onto the stumps. Krunal Pandya then had BR Sharath caught at slip in the third over before Ravi Bishnoi took an outstanding return catch to remove Kane Williamson in the fifth over. Krunal Pandya continued his assault by dismissing Sai Sudharsan and debutant BR Sharath to reduce GT to 61/4 at the end of powerplay.

How LSG Handle the Pressure

LSG were under extreme pressure early in their innings as Mayank Yadav suffered a side strain in their opening over and was sidelined for their next over. When back on, however, Yash quickly got to work, having Vijay Shankar caught behind off one short ball before having Rashid Khan chipping to cover off another slower delivery.

Thakur then caught Rahul Tewatia at third man and Spencer Johnson in similar fashion, to increase pressure on GT. Sudharsan and Noor Ahmad added 24 runs in 17 balls before Thakur wrapped them up in the 12th over for 130 runs to be dismissed by GT and finished with figures of 5-30 as he ran through their lower order for the fourth time this season – giving his side their third place finish and earning himself Player of the Match award as well.

Ravi Bishnoi 3/11

Ravi Bishnoi’s ability to challenge batsmen with legbreaks and sliders made him the ideal leg spinner on Lucknow’s batting-friendly surfaces. At 24 years old, Bishnoi has proven in previous matches that he can be an intimidating presence that challenges batters at both bat and bowler, providing them with enough surprises in late overs to threaten victory at crucial junctures of games. Bishnoi represents all that modern day legspinners offer and should make his mark here too.

Youngster Amardeep Singh has made headlines this season and been recognized with a starting spot with LSG. He will play an instrumental role in future matches against tough teams like Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.

He took Shubman Gill out in just the second over and continued to bowl well throughout. His googlies presented an extreme challenge to GT openers who struggled to defend against them.

Spinner’s Role

Spinner Shane Corbett played an essential part in LSG’s victory, keeping away side under constant pressure with three wickets in just four overs he claimed as part of an amazing spell that saw them ascend into third position on the points table.

Bishnoi also produced one of the finest catches of the season to dismiss Kane Williamson, leaping in front of the ball to take it in spectacular style.

Krunal Pandya also proved instrumental in the home team’s victory, bowling a three-for-11 spell that provided crucial momentum and shut off LSG’s chase by dismissing both BR Sharath and Sashi Varavaran as part of his impressive display.

Hosts Pune Warriors produced an all-round performance to claim a convincing win against Gujarat Titans when scoring 160 or more batting first – maintaining their 100% record and also marking their first win against GT in IPL history. Thanks to Yash Thakur’s impressive bowling display and Krunal’s brilliant spell, they achieved this victory and now sit only one point behind CSK on the points table; an outstanding showing could even allow them to overtake them!

Krunal Pandya 3/11

Krunal Pandya will be keen to build upon his team’s first win of the season and continue playing an instrumental role for LSG – not only with bat and ball but also behind the stumps – against Titans this weekend. His bowling helped stop them in their track when looking to accelerate run chase.

Leg-spinner Jason Holder bowled some tight overs before stunning GT captain with a full ball off the final delivery of powerplay – that ball sealed its fate as Titans went from 54/0 to 80/5 immediately thereafter and couldn’t recover further.

Krunal Pandya had another memorable over to add two wickets in succession and increase his total in one over. First up was an exceptional catch to dismiss KW when she attempted a sweep. Next he used another full length delivery, this time around the corner, which resulted in Deepak Hooda top-edging his straight drive straight towards short fine leg.

He took three wickets in one over, bowling a googly that pitched on middle and off, which caused Sai Sudarsan to hole out at deep backward square leg when attempting a slog sweep. Avesh Khan attempted to hit over the long-on boundary but only managed one run from this delivery from leg-spinner Chris Harris.

Final Over of Pandya

He returned for one final over of their innings and managed to have Ayush Badoni hole out at long-on. His final ball, however, was an accurate knuckle-dusting delivery that struck Badoni as they tried to hit it over the ropes but instead hit his stumps instead.

LSG secured their victory and moved up to fourth in the league table with an emphatic 33 run win, thanks to Marcus Stoinis’ first half century of the season and an exceptional defensive effort that really surprised Gujarat. They notched their best win of the year as well, becoming only the fifth team ever to defeat them outright!

Sai Sudharsan 3/11

Gujarat were in command at 165/3, but LSG’s fine batting performance proved enough to secure their victory and bring home victory for their side. KL Rahul stood unbeaten on 63; bowlers also contributed towards its triumphant outcome.

Avesh Khan attempts to sweep it over square leg for four. Instead, the googly from Yash Thakur hits Avesh’s bat and flies behind the keeper; David Miller runs in from deep fine leg and gathers it – marking two dismissals by one of Gujarat’s spinners for this Australian.

Yash Thakur strikes again and this time with a big wicket! Rinku Singh attempts to run between wicketkeeper and slip after making 55 from only 25 balls; Thakur struck off Rinku’s toes as she attempted to do so, with Mohammad Shami running in from short fine leg to catch it after it bounced up again.

Umesh Yadav Performance

Devdutt Padikkal becomes the next victim as he edges a full-length delivery from Umesh Yadav to Shubman Gill at slip for 7. Earlier, Padikkal had looked in good touch, having survived an initial lbw appeal and then sending a pull straight back towards square leg for six.

Sai Sudharsan first made an impactful debut for Chennai Super Kings’ domestic T20 league campaign in 2022, scoring over 400 runs at an outstanding strike-rate of 163.8. Following that performance he was acquire by Gujarat Titans for their base price of INR 20 lakh at auction.

Sudharsan has since excelled, scoring his maiden century at Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before shining in Vijay Hazare Trophy 50 over competition the following season. A prolific run scorer on Indian T20 circuit so far, Sudharsan should form part of GT’s future plans as one of their core batsmen.
