Records of ODI matches

India and Sri Lanka share one of the greatest rivalries in world cricket history. Over the years, their two teams have met numerous times in high-stakes games filled with drama and excitement – from Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODIs), Twenty20 matches (T20s) as well as major tournaments like ICC World Cup. Their matches draw millions of spectators worldwide!

Indian teams have an outstanding record against Sri Lanka in one-day internationals (ODIs), winning 99 of 171 contests played, with 59 tied matches and seven draws occurring between them. Their first meeting occurred in January 2000 when India won by 4-1; since that game Sri Lanka haven’t defeated them once more.

Since then, Sri Lankan cricket has struggled to compete with top teams around the world. After losing several key players such as Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara, their performance has declined considerably; but recently there have been encouraging signs. Sri Lanka defeated Zimbabwe in two-match test series and tied Pakistan four match series; they must perform strongly against South Africa next series to increase their chances of qualifying for World Cup 2019.

India prevailed easily in the opening ODI by 390 runs, led by Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli’s respective centuries; Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar provided effective spinner support; while Sri Lanka’s batsmen such as Pathum Nissanka and Dunith Wellalage found it difficult to keep pace with India’s run rate; although Nicholas Pooran scored his maiden ODI century to give them hope in the final stages.

Records of Test matches

Sri Lanka and India have one of the longest running Test match rivalries in international cricket, having played 46 Test Matches against each other with India taking more than half. But Sri Lanka do have several talented batting stars such as Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene that could win any contest with their impressive batsmen skills.

The inaugural Test between these teams took place at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo and saw India win by an innings and a half with Kapil Dev claiming five wickets – marking India’s maiden triumph on Sri Lankan soil.

India began their chase well, with Jaiswal and Gill scoring 74 runs in 6 overs as openers Jaiswal and Gill put up strong scores before losing wickets quickly. Sri Lanka responded strongly with Pathum Nissanka scoring an outstanding 79 off 48 balls – hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes in his innings! Kusal Mendis provided valuable support with 45 off only 17 deliveries.

Sri Lanka won their match by five wickets to qualify for the Asia Cup final and defend their crown as reigning champions. They made three consecutive appearances at Asia Cup finals en route to winning six titles overall in this competition. It was an intense final, both sides showing lots of fight.

The inaugural T20 International was an exciting battle between India and Sri Lanka. From Suryakumar Yadav’s fiery 58 to Pathum Nissanka’s determined 79, there was plenty to keep both teams guessing throughout. But in the end it was India’s depth in both batting and bowling that proved decisive.

Records of T 20 matches

Sri Lanka and India have enjoyed an intense cricket rivalry for decades, producing thrilling matches full of drama and skill. Legendary players such as Arjuna Ranatunga, Kumar Sangakkara and Sachin Tendulkar for Sri Lanka; Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, etc. have all participated in these matchups – the upcoming Asia Cup match will continue this longstanding tradition and fans should expect some thrilling action!

At the outset of their match against Hong Kong, Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first after beating Bangladesh 5-0 in their opener. Unfortunately for them though, their batsmen struggled against Hong Kong’s tough batting attack and were limited to an underwhelming total. Meanwhile Hong Kong enjoyed a better start thanks to Nizakat Khan’s impressive half century.

Sri Lanka lost three wickets within 10 overs, trailing by 68 runs. They managed to turn things around thanks to Pathum Nissanka’s superb innings – smashing 67 off 31 balls – assisted by Kusal Mendis’ contribution of 57 runs. Together they created an astounding partnership and their well-crafted half century brought Sri Lanka close to victory.

The match was also notable for an unusually high number of dropped catches by Hong Kong, with five being dropped by Pathum Nissanka and two from Kusal Perera alone – this being an enormous setback and they will need to improve their fielding if they want to make it out of group stages. Both teams struggled for form during this tournament, yet both will hope for an encouraging win against Afghanistan to secure their position in the next stage of competition.
